SYNOPSIS :
When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.
As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it... or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.
REVIEW:
Let me start from the fact that this story neither impressed me, not disappointed me. I expected a lot, from, and it did live up to some of the expectations. Yet, before I present my views, I'd still suggest that you read it.
As I said, this gave me equal parts of pleasure and disappointment. Let me begin with the good part. I loved the way the story unravelled. Even though, it had a boring start, I still enjoyed it as the story proceeded. I loved it how various types of faeries were making an appearance everywhere helping the story to eventually take shape.
I loved Lucien the best. Despite having a horrible history, he knew how to keep the tension out of various awkward situations. He was an amazing friend to Tamlin and I loved their bromance.
I, even liked the villain, Amarantha. I could feel the fear Feyre felt, everytime she is brought before her. Amarantha was a mean woman with selfish motives and I loved the way Maas described and presented her into the story.
Now, what I hated about the story. Feyre, was a big disspointment. I didn't think, she deserved the respect just because she did her household chores, which she did out of necessity. Had she been as lucky as her sisters, who had much more time in the good fortune than Feyre, she'd have been just like sisters, ignorant and hateful. The only time I felt any respect towards the ending during her meeting with Amarantha. Another disappointment was how the romance spoiled the entire plot. It had a good storyline, until sappy romance ruined it beyond scope. But, just to clarify, I know many of you out there love romance more than me, so please don't get swayed by my opinion. You might love it. But that's just me.
Also, I didn't really like Rhysand much. He was a very person who tried to be a good person. But in the end, whatever crimes he committed, he shouldn't have done them.
So, that's what I felt, not a big disappointment, yet could have been much better than this. This was my first S. J. Maas novel, and I look forward to reading the Throne of Glass series.
