REVIEW :
I like Romance till the extent where the protagonists meet in a very beautiful way, have a good start by being friends or even acquaintances, develop into a good romance and then live happily ever after. I hate romance the moment things start being mushy and romance doesn't develop but is being forced. This book was more of that.
It started off good. A teenager, who's father is a bestselling author of books with a tragic ending, is forced to go to France to study in a luxurious school and she hates it because she doesn't get away from her old life. All these things are relatable. I even liked how Anna met Etienne and and then the entire gang and how things are not easy or normal, yet she copes up with the change. Even, the way Anna started falling for Etinne makes sense (C'mon he has a British accent!).
But things took a bad turn for me when Anna started whining about how Etienne is out of her league and how he has a girlfriend. Even though we see only Anna's perspective, we know by the end, that Etienne's falling for her, and frankly, it didn't seem natural. I'm not an expert in romance, yet, I thought Etienne's falling for Anna was simply forced to move on with the story. Anna is definitely not a character who can be called "strong", she whines and swoons over Etienne (waaay) too much. I didn't she handled her past, back in Atlanta too well either. Fighting with your best friend, because she's going out with a-guy-who-she-kissed-once doesn't really make sense.
Some things which I still enjoyed are
- PARIS. Throughout the story, various historic monumets are described here, which makes me want to book the next flight to Paris.
- BOARDING SCHOOLS. Probably, the best thing about this book, is Anna and St. Clair's friends. They make fun of each other, help each other, support each other and love each other.
- HUMOR. I'd not say this wasn't a light-hearted read. I laughed at all St. Clair - Josh moments and smiled at some St. Clair-Anna moments.
