SYNOPSIS:
Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must ...and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.

The old gods have no power in the south, Stark's family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.

REVIEW:

When I first picked up this book, I had a lot of expectations from it, because after all, this is the inspiration to the biggest epic fantasy TV series ever. Initial chapters were bearable, as the characters were introduced, I could relate it to the TV show characters, and I was actually impressed. Once, action started taking place, I realized the similarity between the show and the book and I couldn't bring myself to complete it, because I knew what is going to happen.
So, if you have already seen the TV series and plan to read the books, you might be disappointed. You'll not enjoy this in full manner, and even if you did, the emotions won't come as naturally as it did for the series.

Now for those who haven't yet watched the TV show, but plan to start reading it.
This is the best book ever written. Trust me when I say this, you'll be blown away by the amount of detail given to each character and each event. When you enter the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, you'll start loving it more than anything. You'll become devoted to it, and you wouldn't keep it down for anything.
There are characters which are close to my heart like Eddard Stark, the Lord of Winterfell who is appointed as the Hand of the King. There is Jon Snow who is the bastard son of Eddard Stark, who tries to fit in with the Starks and then later in the Night's Watch, but his identity as the bastard always brings him down. Two of my favourite female characters are Arya Stark and Daenerys Targaryen. Arya is the youngest daughter of Lord Stark, a girl who loves swords and battles more than needles and manners. Her spirit always makes me smile. Daenerys, or the Khaleesi is married off to the Khal of the Dothraki, who learn to accept her fate, and makes the best out of the situation.
There are characters who you will absolutely hate. One of them is Cersei Lannister, the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. She is an arrogant lady and does heinous crimes and can go to any extent to get her work done.

Read this book and you'll not be disappointed.
